World Recycling Day

Status: 17.03.23

18 March is International Recycling Day. This day of action has been in existence since 2018 and was launched by the World Recycling Organisation to highlight the importance of recycling and support a more sustainable future.

What? Recycling is boring and the topic has been chewed over? Not quite!

The Bureau of International Recycling, or BIR for short, is committed to action, education and promotion in the field of sustainable behaviour and recycling. It supports initiatives worldwide that are working to establish more sustainable recycling processes. You can find more information on this topic on the BIR website.

What can I do myself?

If sustainability is important to you, you can support local recycling initiatives, for example. Opt for reusable items instead of disposable ones if possible. Use second-hand and refurbished offers and alternatives to cars.

Even if everyone can make a small contribution, in the end it is up to politicians and industry to bring about major changes. Because we all need to pull together for a more sustainable future.

Egg carton instead of herb pot

Did you also grow cress in old egg cartons as a child? Instead of throwing the cartons straight in the bin, they can be used to grow plants.

All you have to do is fill the individual compartments with a little soil, plant the seeds, water them and you're done. In addition to cress, we recommend savoury kitchen herbs or growing vegetable plants for the garden or balcony.

Our tip: Place something under the egg carton if it is made of cardboard. Otherwise the substrate may become damp when watering.
