Hum hum hum, ride around with us...

Status: 27.02.25

Our buses are as much a part of the cityscape as the underground railway and Signal Iduna Park. After all, they can be seen on Dortmund's streets 365 days a year. And almost around the clock. Of course, they don't drive themselves. We are still a long way from autonomous vehicles.

But what do you actually need to bring with you to drive our buses through Dortmund's streets?

Not much at all - and to start with: not even a bus driving licence.

Our colleagues in the transport service are a pretty colourful bunch. Regardless of gender, nationality, religion, sexual orientation, young or old - none of this is decisive for working in our transport service. This also applies to previous jobs on your CV. Most of our bus drivers came into the job via a lateral entry. This means that they have usually worked in completely different areas before they learnt to drive a bus with us.

DSW21 employees on the bus

Regardless of whether you come from sales, the warehouse, the trades or somewhere else entirely. Whether you have completed training or not. There are almost no prerequisites for starting the job. Of course, you should have a car driving licence and driving experience. We can't have traffic hooligans - if you have more than one point in Flensburg, you're out. And being older than 21 is still a must for us.

Apart from that, our most important requirement is that you enjoy driving and socialising with our passengers.

We take care of the rest. With an in-house five-month training programme. We teach you everything you need for a new start in bus driving. From a category D driving licence and the necessary qualifications, including an examination at the Chamber of Industry and Commerce, to intensive instruction on our bus routes and close support during the first few days "on the road". Nobody has to worry about money. Salary is paid from the first day of training.

Once you start working in the transport service, there is one thing above all: plenty of variety and work without a daily routine.

No two days are the same when driving a bus. Different working hours in shifts. Different routes every day. Different vehicles: solo or articulated bus, diesel or electric drive. Always new passengers. Lots of new experiences. That makes driving anything but boring.

Sounds like it's just your thing? Then simply apply and we'll find out if we're a good match.
