Our Berlin trip - a different kind of training!
Status: 19.08.25
Anyone who thinks that training only means work, vocational school and exams has never heard of our trip to Berlin! For us trainees in our second year at DSW21 and DEW21, it's part of the programme and for many of us it's been one of the absolute highlights of our training so far.
Experience Berlin - history up close
It was clear right from the start: this week was going to be special. An exciting mix of political education, hands-on history and lots of new impressions awaited us in Berlin.
We were able to visit the German Bundestag, the Palace of Tears and the Berlin-Hohenschönhausen Memorial. Places that made us think and sparked many conversations. The encounters with contemporary witnesses were particularly moving. Their stories were not only exciting, but also brought history to life. It made you feel completely different. No textbook can convey the terrible events in this way.

More than just a programme
The trip to Berlin was really something special. The combination of learning, dialogue and togetherness. We were able to ask questions, discuss and broaden our horizons. Professionally, but also personally.
But it wasn't all serious. We had a lot of fun. Whether we were having dinner together, in the beer garden or chilling out in the Beach61 beach bar, we had the opportunity to get to know each other better, chat in private and make new friends. This is sometimes neglected in everyday working life, as we are all deployed in other areas.
Berlin on your own
In addition to the official programme, there was plenty of time to explore the capital on your own. From a walk through the government district to trendy food spots and immersing yourself in real city life. It's really fun to explore the city with the others. Some of us were visiting Berlin for the first time and we were able to discover so many new things!
A perfect finish on the Spree
At the end, there was a real highlight: a boat trip together on the Spree. And the weather was perfect too! We relaxed as we sailed through the capital, reviewed the week and enjoyed the view.
For us, the Berlin trip was much more than just a training trip. Not only did we learn new things, we also made new friends, gathered new impressions and simply had a great time together.
