A working day full of technology, precision and challenges

The start of the working day

Status: 02.07.25

It's Monday - I come into the workshop, put on my overalls and safety shoes and greet my colleagues in the workshop. Then I clock in at 6.30 a.m. and, as usual, we start the day with a quick chat about what tasks we have to do today.

My tasks as an apprentice mechatronics technician

My tasks as an apprentice mechatronics technician are very varied on a daily basis. These range from inspecting, maintaining and repairing machines and devices to troubleshooting using electronic measuring devices and computers.

My first task today is to inspect and maintain a railway, checking components such as the gearbox, brakes and electrical controls. Of course, I can only do all this with help. We work with two people at all points so that maintenance is completed more quickly and the railway can run safely again. An easy task on paper, but often more difficult than you think.

At lunchtime, I take a well-earned break with my colleagues. I go to the canteen and get something to eat.

After my break, I dedicate myself to a new task: troubleshooting an electrical system on a light railway. With the help of the computer and other electronic devices, I set off in search of the fault and, after some back and forth, finally manage to find and rectify it. I have already learnt a lot from the central training workshop, but the field service often has many new topics and new tasks to offer.

I'm always pleased when I'm given such a big responsibility, because the light rail system is a central means of transport.

Of course, I don't have to carry this responsibility alone, but I am also supported by my work colleagues

The end of the working day is approaching

Around 3 p.m., when I've finished the day's tasks, I slowly but surely prepare for the end of the working day, tidying up the equipment and tools I've used so that I can start the next day in a tidy workplace.

After saying goodbye to my colleagues, I pack my things and change out of my overalls back into the everyday clothes I arrived in this morning.

I clock out in the workshop, get into the car and enjoy my well-earned evening off.
