How the tariffs work in Dortmund and Castrop-Rauxel
The cities of Dortmund and Castrop-Rauxel belong to the Rhine-Ruhr Transport Association (VRR). The fares in the VRR are based on fare zones and honeycombs, whereby each journey is assigned a price level. Reduced ticket prices apply for children aged six to 14.

Our tip
The price levels can also be displayed via the electronic timetable information or theDSW21 app. For journeys that start or end outside the VRR, the journey planner shows the WestfalenTarif or NRW tariff. At our customer centres, you can get personal advice on choosing a fare zone or the right price level.
Price level A
In Dortmund and Castrop-Rauxel, price level A applies for journeys within the city. On the map you can see up to which stops you can travel with this price level. If your destination is outside the city area, other price levels apply depending on the route.
Price level A, 2 honeycombs
For customers who start their journey near the city limits and then only want to travel a short distance to the neighbouring city, price level A is often sufficient. In this case, the journey must not cross2 neighbouring honeycombsneighbouring honeycombs.
Price level B - occasional travellers
For all other journeys to the neighbouring city, you need a price level B ticket. The maximum destinations that can be reached vary depending on the boarding area. For Dortmund, you need to distinguish whether the boarding point is in fare zone 37 or 38 is used.
Price level B - Frequent traveller
If you have a season ticket or season ticket, you must choose a central fare zone. This determines the area in which your price level applies. Below you will find an overview of the possible central fare zones so that you can quickly select the appropriate area of validity.
You can find a complete list of the central fare zones on the website of the VRR There you can view the exact overview and select the appropriate area for your AboTicket or season ticket.
Price level C
Price level C, shown here with a red border, is valid in the entire VRR network area and in individual neighbouring fare zones of other transport associations.
