DSW21 is investing around €2 million in the track infrastructure of the U42 light rail line: from 16 to 28 September 2025, the Dortmund transport company will be renewing tracks and points in the area of the "Schulte Rödding" stop. The measures will have an impact on regular U42 light rail services. This will be interrupted from 18 September between the "Franz-Zimmer-Siedlung" and "Eisenstraße" stops and replaced by a rail replacement service with buses. There will also be restrictions for private transport at the Derner Straße/Bayrische Straße/Feineisenstraße junction. Appropriate diversions will be set up.

DSW21 asks for your understanding for the necessary restrictions.

All details at a glance

Track work
DSW21 is renewing a total of seven points and around 112 metres of track in the area of the U42 "Schulte Rödding" stop - both in front of and behind the stop. The work will run from 16 to 28 September 2025 and is part of the NRW funding programme "Kommunale Schiene".
Light rail and rail replacement service
Due to the construction work, the U42 light rail line will be interrupted between the "Franz-Zimmer-Siedlung" and "Eisenstraße" stops from 18 to 28 September. In this section, DSW21 is organising a rail replacement service with buses running every 10 or 15 minutes. The local transport company recommends changing from light rail <-> rail replacement service at the "Kirchderne" stop.

The replacement buses usually stop in the immediate vicinity of the regular light rail stops. However, passengers are asked to pay particular attention to the designated departure positions at the "Schulte Rödding" and "Franz-Zimmer-Siedlung" stops and to allow a little more travelling time.

On the remaining section of the U42 ("Grotenbachstr." - "Kirchderne") the trains will continue to run as normal.

Information for passengers with reduced mobility
A barrier-free transfer between the light rail and rail replacement service is possible at
the stops "Kirchderne", "Franz-Zimmer-Siedlung" and "Eisenstraße"
. For passengers with mobility impairments - especially those with an electric wheelchair - DSW21 will deploy a special vehicle if required. Those affected can contact the driver and service staff directly for assistance.

Bus services
DSW21 bus services are not affected by this measure.

Individual traffic
Due to the track work, individual traffic at the Derner Straße / Bayrische Straße / Feineisenstraße junction will be restricted from 18 September to 30 September: Specifically, turning left from Derner Straße into Bayrische Straße (direction Kirchderne) and turning left from Derner Straße into Feineisenstraße (direction City) will be temporarily not possible. In the first case, the diversions will be via Derner Straße - Kemminghauser Straße - Lüdinghauser Straße. The second diversion will be via Derner Straße - Bornstraße - Eisenstraße - Burgholzstraße - Osterfeldstraße - Derner Straße.

Information for local residents
In order to minimise disruption for local residents and complete the work quickly, some of the work will also be carried out at night. This work has been authorised by the authorities. Residents will be informed in writing in good time about the construction work and the associated restrictions. In addition, access to the houses and buildings will be ensured during the construction period.
