Festival of lights and harbour walk on 30 August

Reinforcements to Westfalenpark and shuttle to the harbour - All light rail lines run longer.

Tens of thousands of people are expected to attend the Festival of Lights in Westfalenpark and the harbour walk in the north of Dortmund on Saturday, 30 August. For DSW21, this means that everything with wheels will be rolling on the light rail system. The U49 line will be reinforced with additional trams and journeys and will even run until around 1.30 am.

Festival of Lights

To ensure that all visitors can get home without any problems after the fireworks, almost all light rail lines will run with two-car trains until the end of operations on Saturday, and in some cases even longer. Since the introduction of DOnight, the light rail lines have already been running an hour longer on average.

The U49 line between Hacheney, Westfalenpark and the main station will also be significantly boosted by additional trains and journeys and will run until around 1.30 am. Passengers should use the electronic timetable information for the exact times.

Access at the Westfalenpark, Markgrafenstraße and Märkische Straße stops will be regulated by service staff after the end of the Festival of Lights so that no more passengers can access the platform than the incoming trains can carry. The escalators are in operation at the stops, but will be switched off in the event of overloading. Passengers are urgently requested to keep the entrances and exits to the escalators clear in order to avoid dangerous situations.

Even if everything that has wheels rolls in the light rail area, it will not be possible to get thousands of visitors home at the same time immediately after the end of the festival. You should therefore allow some patience and waiting time for the return journey and use the electronic timetable information(www.bus-und-bahn.de, DSW21 or VRR app) for planning.

Please note: Westfalenpark has not concluded a KombiTicket agreement with DSW21 - travel to and from the event by public transport is therefore not included in the admission tickets.

"Harbour walk" district festival

Many visitors are also expected to attend the harbour walk on 30 August. They should use the U47 light rail line (Aplerbeck - Westerfilde) in particular to travel to and from the event, on which more two-car trains will be used.

A specially organised free shuttle service will also connect the eleven stops of the harbour walk every 15 minutes from 2.30 pm to 9.30 pm. More information: https://hafenspaziergang.echt-nordstadt.de/
