Flo and Tine take the bus
Status: 20.02.25
Flo and Tine are standing at the bus stop waiting for the bus. It's often very full because lots of people have to get to school or work.
"I nearly fell over yesterday. The bus suddenly braked hard!"
Flo says as the bus arrives. Luckily it's empty today and they can sit down.
Tine nods. "That's really dangerous. That's why my parents practised with me how to drive a bus properly!"
What you do when boarding
Keep your distance from the kerb. It is dangerous to stand too close to the bus when it pulls into the bus stop.
Let the people on the bus get off first. Once everyone has got off, you can get on. It's quicker.
Go through to the back. Don't stand in front of the doors. Otherwise other people won't be able to get in.
If there are free seats, sit down. If not, hold on tight. Take your rucksack off when it's full.

What you do during the journey
Hold on tight. Even if you are seated. Sometimes the bus has to brake suddenly.
Do not put bags on your lap or in the aisle. When the bus brakes, they can fly through the vehicle.
Be considerate and don't push when the bus is full. Eating and drinking is not allowed. Neither is listening to loud music. If you want to listen to music, wear headphones.
What you do when you get out
If your stop is next, press the "stop button". The bus driver will then know that you want to get off and will stop.
Stay seated until the bus comes to a stop.
Don't push when you go to the door.
Look left and right before you get off. A bicycle or scooter could pass the bus.
Don't cross the road in front of or behind the bus. The people in the cars won't be able to see you. Wait until the bus has pulled away. Then you can see if the road is clear.
