Temperatures are rising and the sun is appearing more and more frequently. While the plants are blooming and the animals are becoming more active, we are also being lured outside more often.

It's time to dust off the bike, get on the saddle and explore the city! There are numerous exciting routes and sights to discover in and around Dortmund. We wish you lots of fun on your cycling excursions.

The Route of Industrial Heritage

You've probably seen the signs before. The Route of Industrial Heritage is a beautiful route full of sights. It takes you through nature and culture in the Pott. The various routes are around 700 kilometres long in total, passing the Hansa coking plant, the Zollverein colliery and the gasometer in Oberhausen.

The Rhenish donkey

The 13 km long route used to serve as a railway link between Dortmund, Bochum and Witten to connect the various industrial locations. Today, it is a relaxed cycle route with few inclines and is therefore perfect for beginners and short trips. The old railway line leads to the Zoom in Gelsenkirchen and offers the opportunity to round off the cycle tour with a visit to the zoo.

The Emscher Cycle Route

The Emscher Cycle Route is probably one of the best-known and most popular cycle routes in the Ruhr region. Along the Emscher, you can enjoy historic parks, green industrial sites and nature. The route is particularly family-friendly as it runs mostly on flat surfaces and without car traffic.
