Chop, cook, fry - our canteen
Status: 27.08.25
Sunday evening - a few quick preparations for the start of the week before going to bed. Make sandwiches for Monday morning's breakfast, chop vegetables for the lunchbox. When you look in the cupboards, you're shocked: the bread is mouldy and there are no vegetables left. For people whose hunger puts them in a bad mood, this is not the best way to start the working week.
How do you get through the day without feeling hungry and in a good mood?
But for us at DSW21, that's no problem at all. It's quite clear: you can't work hungry. That's why around twenty colleagues in the canteens at our main sites - the head office in Deggingstraße and the depots in Brünninghausen and Dorstfeld - make sure that we are well fed every day. The team of kitchen staff and chefs provide a wide range of breakfasts, with a variety of baked goods, scrambled eggs and sometimes delicious waffles.
At lunchtime, there is a variety of international dishes to choose from. Whether meat or fish, vegetarian or increasingly vegan: there is something for everyone. If you can't find what you're looking for, you can help yourself to the salad buffet. As our chefs make sure that there is not just schnitzel with chips, but something healthy on the table, you can treat yourself to dessert afterwards with a clear conscience.

Feeding every one of the more than 2,200 employees who have the time and inclination to eat in our canteens is quite an achievement. But our canteen team actually does a lot more.
They provide meetings with coffee, pastries and sandwiches. They prepare hot and cold buffets for our internal seminars and events. From finger food to currywurst, our canteens deliver whatever your heart desires. Boring routine doesn't stand a chance with so many different tasks every day.
It takes a lot of commitment and a strong team to ensure that everything runs smoothly. Because a lot of the actual work goes unnoticed by the hungry guests. Before the cooking starts, there is a lot of preparatory work to be done. The weekly changing menus have to be written. Goods have to be bought. Duty rosters have to be drawn up so that everyone knows where they are needed and when. There are lots of legal requirements regarding cleanliness and hygiene that need to be complied with. The maintenance, inspection and repair of technical equipment must be organised. Right through to the sustainable disposal of food waste, there are plenty of tasks that need to be completed. This is the only way to ensure that all processes work and that employees are full and satisfied at the end of the day. This is the best prerequisite for them to do their job so well that buses and trains run smoothly in Dortmund.
Would you like to get to know our canteen team and help us develop our canteens and make them even better? We are currently looking for a new manager for our company canteens. Take a look at our job advertisement here.
